Robert Taylor Obituary

Robert D Taylor, 85, a resident of Poughquag, formerly of Westchester County, died on Saturday, June 2nd, 2012 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center. Bob was born in New York City on April 6, 1927, the son of Phillip and Rosalyn Manzella Taylor. He proudly served our country in the US Navy during World War II. Bob was employed as a Special Effects Director for CBS Television for 50 years, working on such shows as The Ed Sullivan Show, Jackie Gleason Show, and the Evening News with Walter Cronkite. He loved to relay stories about all his experiences in “show business” to a captive audience of his children and grandchildren, and recently put those stories on tape for a book to be written about his life. He was a deeply religious man and was involved in church activities, most recently at his current church, the Hopewell Reformed Church, where he served on various committees and performed volunteer work. Traveling was a passion of Bob’s and together with Lorraine, he enjoyed close to one hundred cruises and trips. But, his favorite place was Cape Cod, where he and Lorraine owned a home on Sheep Pond for many years and took numerous wonderful vacations with the entire family. As an avid sports fan, Bob frequently enjoyed spending time talking to his grandsons about his favorite team, the New York Yankees. He leaves behind the love of his life, his beloved wife, Lorraine, to whom he was married for 58 years and his three daughters and their husbands, Karen and Ron Roane, Kathy and Roger Dann, and Suzanne and Robert Cofer. He also leaves behind 8 grandchildren of whom he was so proud, Maria, Daniel and Robert Waer, Christopher and Jessica Dann and Jennifer, James and Matthew Cofer. Nothing made him happier than visits with all of them, hearing stories of their life journeys and always passing on words of wisdom, which they will never forget. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, June 6th from 10-11am, with a funeral service with military honors directly following at The Hopewell Reformed Church, 143 Beekman Road in Hopewell Junction, with the Rev. Taylor Holbrook officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Bob’s favorite charity, The Salvation Army, PO Box 3415, Poughkeepsie NY 12601, or American Macular Degeneration Foundation, PO Box 515, Northampton, MA 01061.
