Anna Venneman Obituary

VENNEMAN Anna Maria Venneman (nee Vendrig) died peacefully on January 13, 2017 surrounded by family. “Anne” was born January 8, 1936 in Breukelen, Utrecht, Netherlands; the 5th of 7 children born to Willem and Truus Vendrig (deWit). In her childhood, Anne lost both her parents, so her Aunt and her older siblings raised her. Anne completed her elementary school and later took some schooling in home economics. She worked on the family farm milking cows and making cheese. She then worked in home care, caring for families in which the mothers fell ill. In 1959, she left her country, her home and her family when she immigrated to Canada. She worked as a nanny in the Montreal area; she even worked for the family of the Premier of Quebec. In 1964, she married the love of her life, Ben Venneman, and settled on the farm in Clarenceville, Quebec. Together they built up a successful dairy farm while raising 5 kids and supporting Ben’s parents. In 1979, the family moved to Alberta, residing briefly in Rimbey before settling permanently on a dairy farm east of Olds. In the years that followed, Anne dedicated herself to her family, the dairy farm and dairy community, but above all to the Church. Anne was a devout Catholic and was involved with the Catholic Women’s League for numerous years. Anne was a very humble person, who always put the needs of others before her own. Anne took abundant pride in her family and her greatest joy was having them all together. Anne is survived by her husband Ben; their five children and spouses Ben (Heather), Bill (Judie), Sandra (Phil), Cynthia (Randy) and Anthony (Michelle); thirteen grandchildren Breana, Meghan, Kaitlyn, Robert, Richard, Sarah, Olivia, Jason, Lauren, Joshua, Zachary, Kyle and Alyssa and three great-grandchildren Emma, Owen and Bailey. The Venneman family sends heartfelt thanks to Kathy Kemmere, Mary Trenholm, and the staff of Olds Homecare who made our transition from home to hospice easier with their never ending care and support. Our deepest gratitude also goes to the Olds and District Hospice Society and the staff at Olds Sunrise Encore for your incredible care that made Anne’s final days comfortable and dignified. Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday January 19, 2017 at 11:00 am at St. Stephen’s Catholic Church with Father Les Drewicki celebrant. Interment to follow in the Olds Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial tributes may be made directly to the Olds & District Hospice Society or the Alberta Kidney Foundation.
