Bruce Young

Bruce passed away peacefully Sunday, January 8, 2017, at the Health Science Center in Winnipeg, Manitoba, at the age of 58 years with his family by his side. Bruce was a husband, father, grandfather, brother, brother-in-law, cousin, uncle and friend, he was also known as “Brucie/Chef”. Bruce was born Sunday, August 10, 1958 in The Pas, Manitoba and lived all his life in Opaskwayak Cree Nation. He received his education at MBCI, completing Grade 11. During this time he met and married his loving wife, Matilda Rose, Friday, November 16, 1979 at the Church of Messiah in Opaskwayak Cree Nation, Manitoba. He worked at Repap as a Carpenter, then at Gordon Lathlin Arena as Maintenance, Zamboni Driver, and Beautification for OCN Recreation. In his younger days, he enjoyed playing soccer with the teams: Kickers and Big Eddy Hawks (they won 1st a story he shared, he would smile). He was always active, by jogging long distances usually in and around Bracken Dam dike road area. One of his many passions was being a paddler (with Darrel Fosseneuve), often he would travel to compete in and around the surrounding communities. Other activities included fishing, hunting, and canoeing, but due to ill health he could longer do physical activities, so he took another hobby by going to bingo, especially enjoyed monster bingos. Over the years Bruce made many friends wherever he went, he was that type of person to stop and talk with you. He especially loved to spent time with his children, grandchildren, family, friends and his dog, Marat. He is survived by his wife of 36 years Matilda Rose, and his pet dog; Marat, children; Roxanne, Edward (Eddy-Boy) (Gayle), Cheyenne (Darin), Tay-lyn, Annie, Bruce Jr. (Baby Chef), Spear Fox grandchildren; Hailey, Zack, Sasha, Tessa, Jersey and Eddy boy Jr. His brother: Gordon Young, His sister; Linda (Simeon) Spence; Custom-Adopted Sisters; Patsy Bercier, Patricia Lathlin, Sisters in law; Suzette Young, Bernadette Young, God children; Jack Constant, Wilma Cook, Sam Constant, Ken Constant, Blake Young, and Kristen Moran. As well as numerous other nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Bruce was predeceased by his parents; Jim and Hilda Young, Father in law and Mother in law; Lazarus and Annie Harris, Brothers; Baptise Young, James Young, Sister in law; Christina Young, Nephew; Junior Spence, Gunner Spence, Uncle; William Seewap. As well as numerous other nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
