Jacqueline Brown Obituary

Jackie was born on Saturday, June 14, 1947 in Winnipeg, Manitoba to Jack and Val Payne. Jackie was the eldest of five children which includes Dode, Angela, Joey and Hatti. At a young age, Jackie moved with her family to The Pas, Manitoba where she resided for the rest of her life. As a child and teenager, Jackie enjoyed being outdoors and was quite the tomboy. She was very involved with curling and other sports. Jackie also liked playing the piano which she even taught to several students in the 1960’s and 1970’s. She liked to say that her sister Dode and her were Irish twins as they were only born 11 months apart. In 1965, Jackie married her high school sweetheart, Terry Needham, and soon after was blessed with her daughter, Bonnie. In 1968, Jackie was blessed again with the birth of her son, TJ, and her family was complete. Jackie worked with a variety of people, doing a lot of different jobs, giving each job her best as she was a perfectionist in everything she did. Jackie worked at The Pas Herald, Bruce Dunlop Prospecting, The Pas Clinic, and The Pinder Clinic. She also worked at Fat Boy Restaurant where she spent her weekday and weekend mornings enjoying her customers, and talking with everyone, including the “Table of Knowledge” as she liked to call it. Jackie was a very active and social person especially in her younger days. She was involved with The Pas Figure Skating Club, Kinettes, The Pas Curling Club and the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #19 where she was President in 1991-1992, something she was very proud of. Jackie liked to travel and one of her favourite trips was curling in Mexico with the Legion. The most special time of the year for Jackie was Christmas. Each and every room in her house was decorated from top to bottom, including the bathroom. It was beautiful and she loved the decorating which took her days, though she cursed the un-decorating. In 1986, Jackie met Murray Townsend, and he became a very important person in her life. Murray has always been a great friend to Jackie over the years which she appreciated a great deal. In 1997, Jackie married Walter Brown. They enjoyed travelling, snowmobiling and entertaining their friends. Jackie especially enjoyed her yard at the lake with all of the flowers that she and Walter planted. Jackie loved her family and friends but the most important people to her were her grandchildren – Brett, Bryce and Brooke. She spent a lot of time with each of them, especially when they were younger, and enjoyed watching the boys’ hockey games, baseball games, soccer games and school performances. Jackie was so happy when her “Sweet Pea” Brooke was around and she went to all of her dance recitals, singing performances, school performances, and taking Brooke to Sparks. Jackie and Brooke enjoyed going to all the teas together and loved it when they won a prize. Jackie was very happy when her cat, “Lucky” showed up one rainy day at her apartment. He soon became a member of her family and came to be very spoiled, but she loved having him as company. Jackie passed away with family by her side, on Tuesday, January 17, 2017 at St. Anthony’s Hospital after a very courageous battle with cancer. Jackie was predeceased by her son TJ; father Jack; and husband Walter Brown. Jackie is survived by her daughter, Bonnie (Brad) and grandchildren, Brett (EJ), Bryce and Brooke; her mother Val; sisters Dode (Bob), Angela (Rick), Hatti (Colin); brother Joey; nephews Robbie, Jeff (Tenielle), Travis (Lorissa) and Jonathan; nieces Debbie (Eric), Jacquie (Mark), and Corey (Dustin). She also leaves behind many grand-nieces and grand-nephews. Jackie leaves behind a lot of people who loved her and who will miss her terribly including members of the Needham family who she still considered as family and they thought of her as family also. Thank you to Kim and family, Booge and family and Flo as she treasured being a part of your family. Jackie’s wishes were to be cremated and buried with her son, TJ. Jackie wanted a big party for her 70th birthday so we will be having a Celebration of Jackie’s life at the Legion on Saturday, June 17, 2017 from 1-3 pm. Private family interment will follow at Lakeside Cemetery, The Pas, Manitoba at a later time. In lieu of flowers, donations to The Pas Cats and Kittens, c/o Box 3186, The Pas, Manitoba, R9A 1R8, would be appreciated by Jackie’s family.
