Mary Starr Obituary

Mary Matilda “Tilley” Starr passed away unexpectedly but peacefully to be with her heavenly Father on Wednesday, December 21, 2016 at St. Paul's Personal Care Home, The Pas, Manitoba, at the age of 85 years. Tilley was born Wednesday, April 22, 1931 to Robert and Mary Dysart in South Indian Lake, Manitoba. She resided at several places during her lifetime; South Indian Lake, Fort Churchill, Winnipeg and Barrie, Ontario. She moved back to South Indian Lake in 2013 and came to live in The Pas in 2014. Tilley worked as a cook in Fort Churchill with the armed forces, spent 2 1/2 years in The Pas recovering and working at the Sanatorium at Clearwater Lake. She lived and worked in Winnipeg for several years then in housekeeping at a hospital in Barrie, Ontario, until her retirement at the age of sixty five. Tilley loved to go fishing, picking blue berries when she returned home to visit in South Indian Lake nearly every year. She also loved to win at poker, bingo and enjoyed challenging anyone who dared to play crib. Win or lose she always smiled. Tilley also loved music and dancing, preferring old time and country music. Tilley loved her family and friends dearly. Her eyes would light up when her grandchildren and great grandchildren came to visit. Tilley also made some very good friends and acquaintances at her home at St. Paul's Residence, including all staff members who worked so professionally at taking such excellent care of Tilley. Tilley leaves to mourn her son Arnold (Aileen) Dysart; daughters, Louise (Reg) Bradt and Sabina Spencer; granddaughter Susan (Robert) Strate; Grandsons Amos Bradt, John (Amy) Bradt; grandchildren Andrew, David, Micheal and Dakota; great grandchildren Marek, Sadie, Paige, Sophie, Alyssa, Logan, Savana. Tilley is also survived by brothers William (Hilda) Dysart, Louie Dysart, Murdo Dysart, Donnie (Myrtle) Dysart, George (Laurie) Dysart, Douglas Dysart; adopted brother Robert (Sarah) Dysart; sisters Isabelle Moose, Florence Donkey, Evelyn (Graeme) Montgomery and numerous nieces and nephews. Tilley was predeceased by her parents Robert (Bob) and Mary Dysart; brothers Sam Dysart, Robert W. Dysart and Edward Dysart. Her memory will be cherished by all whose lives she touched. Prayers and visitation were held Friday, January 6, 2017, 7:00 – 9:00 pm, at the Chapel of Hemauer Funeral Home, The Pas. Funeral service was held Saturday, January 7, 2017, 11:00 am, at the Chapel of Hemauer Funeral Home, The Pas, with James Hemauer presiding. Music ministry was provided by Flora Thomas. In keeping with Mary’s wishes, cremation followed and a private family interment will be held at a later date. Following the service, a reception was held at the Royal Canadian Legion Hall, The Pas. In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Paul’s Residence Equity Fund, c/o Activities, Box 240, The Pas, Manitoba, R9A 1K4, would be appreciated by Mary’s family.
