Paul Personius Obituary

Paul was born on January 22, 1951 to Louis (Gideon) Personius and Betsy (nee Constant) in The Pas, Manitoba. In his early years, Paul grew up near Clearwater Lake (The Pas Airport). Although he was a young child, he would tag alongside his Dad to help clean the airplanes. Paul learned his fancy footwork at “Friday Night Square-dances” held at the Airport. This is where his sons picked up their moves! Paul and his family moved to Big Eddy (The Pridelands) in the 60’s. This is where he resided and raised his family. He received his education at the Carrot River School on Opaskwayak and later on in The Pas. He had a strong work ethic; some of his jobs included Bus Driver, Truck Driver, Highways Department and later Tolko where he took an early retirement after 35 years with the Company. For many years, Paul volunteered for the Opaskwayak Cree Nation Fire Department. He also served on several boards and committees within the Community including the Church of Redeemer Vestry and the OCN Blizzard Board. Paul was a devoted family man. He met his wife Rose Quill in 1975 and they later married in 1976. They just celebrated 40 years of marriage on August 27th. Paul and Rose raised five children: Cynthia, Paul Jr., Roy, Gregory and Rueben. Paul knew the importance of having an education and he instilled this in all his children, his nieces and nephews. Some of his greatest moments were the times their children graduated. Other proud moments were when he became a Grandfather and later a Chapan. He has 14 Grandchildren and one Chapan. Uncle “Stooge” cherished all of his family. He bonded with his many nieces and nephews through his teasing, wrestling and sports. Our Dad enjoyed life. Some of his interests included collecting rare coins, old Canadian bills and foreign currencies. He played soccer with The Warriors, baseball with The Big Eddy Red Caps and he coached women’s fastball, The Diamonds. As his boys grew older, he took an active role in their hockey development. He went to many practices, games and tournaments throughout their years. His love for sports was well known whether it was local, provincial, or national. Paul was the “Don Cherry” of the Pridelands. After a lengthy battle with many illnesses, Paul passed away peacefully at home with his family by his side on November 18, 2016. Paul is survived by his Wife Rose; his Children, Cynthia, Paul Jr. (Becky), Roy, Gregory and Rueben (Janna); Grandchildren, Keith, Cody, Braden, Chae, Tyler, Darius, Nolan, Carter, Kylie, Wacey, Milan, Emily, Eliza, Eric and Great Grandchild Dante.
