Passed peacefully away at the Carbonear General Hospital, in the presence of his loving family, on January 3rd, 2017, Edward Paul Neil of Spaniard's Bay, at the age of 72. Predeceased by his parents, Robert G. Neil and Rita Neil. Leaving to celebrate his life, with fond and loving memories are: his sons Paul (Elizabeth), and Kenneth (Susan); daughter Kelly; grandchildren Colton, Kieran and Violet; brothers David (Verna) and Danny (Rachael); sisters Elaine (Charlie) Smith, and Bobbi (Jack) Harrington; nieces and nephews Tracy (William) Butler, Peter (Theresa), John Harrington, Andrew Harrington (Katelyn Pierce), Katie Harrington, Jacob and Emily; great nephew Rylan Butler; as well as a large extended family and many friends from various circles. Resting at Lynch's Funeral Home in Spaniard's Bay. Visitation on Friday, January 6th and Saturday, January 7th from 10am-12pm, 2pm-5pm, 7pm-9pm, and Sunday, January 8th from 10am-12pm. Funeral service taking place at Holy Redeemer Church in Spaniard's Bay on Sunday, January 8th, 2017 at 2pm, with interment at Maul Tree Hill Anglican Cemetery. Flowers gratefully accepted or donations in his memory can be made to TCP Health Foundation. Ed Neil was an educator for thirty years, retiring from Ascension Collegiate in Bay Roberts in 1996. He was a devoted community leader and activist. Among his many accomplishments were: he served as Mayor, Councillor and recreation committee member for the town of Spaniard's Bay; he was the founding chair of the Spaniard's Bay Heritage Committee and treasurer of the Heritage Society; Ed served on the select vestry at Holy Redeemer Church, and he was a churchwarden; he was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion in Spaniard's Bay; Ed served a former chair of the TCP Health Foundation; and he was a long time member of the PC party of NL. Ed Neil was an avid baseball and hockey fan. He was a founding member of The Bay Arena Association, as well as former board member and chair. He was a founding member of the CBN Minor Hockey Association. He spent many hours coaching minor hockey and high school hockey teams. Ed loved working with young people and always sought to bring out the best in them, both on and off the ice. He devoted his life to improving the community and to providing opportunities for young people.
