Glenda Wentzell Obituary

Glenda Anne Wentzell, age 80, of Bridgewater peacefully passed away on Tuesday, January 17, 2017. She was at home, surrounded by her loving family and in the hands of her husband of 56 years of marriage. Lunenburg is where Glenda was born. She always remained proud and true through her lifelong journey. She was a daughter of the late Fred and Rhoda (Williams) Hall. She is preceded by a brother, David. Glenda graduated in 1959 as a compassionate and devoted RN, working at the Children’s, Fishermen’s Memorial and the Nova Scotia Hospitals. Today, after 58 years of nursing ministry, her classmates continue to be loyal and dedicated to each other. Glenda was an enthusiastic supporter and a dedicated cheerleader for her daughters and the various clubs to which they belonged, including the Figure Skating Club, the Girl Guide Program and Curling Clubs. Her kindness and caring ways for people made others feel like they were part of her family. As a grandmother of two girls, “Nanny” was devoted and proudly watched them excel in school and shine as competitive public speakers of noteworthy topics across the province. Glenda’s dedication and strong sense of humility also extended to her healthcare community while serving thirty years of endless hours volunteering at the South Shore Regional Hospital gift shop. Her responsibility as the staff scheduler ensured that all of her volunteers were healthy and able to fundraise to better serve and provide assistance to enhance the lives for those in the community. She was also a faithful member of the Bridgewater United Church. Dear to her heart was her daily routine of completing the cryptoquote and reading the Chronicle Herald newspaper. The happiest of times were spent with family and friends, especially at their cottage on Crooked Lake. She also created fond memories from many years travelling as a “snowbird” to Texas, Florida, and across several oceans of blue. Glenda loved to laugh while sharing stories with humour, reminiscing of the good old days. She will never leave our hearts. Glenda is survived by her husband, Bruce; daughters, Debbie Wentzell; Yarmouth; Peggy (Brenton) Mosher, Hemford; grandchildren, Alana and Lori; sister, Patricia (Gilbert (Jr.) Tanner, Lunenburg and special aunt, Lillian Hall, Lunenburg and one niece and two nephews. Cremation has taken place under the direction of the Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, Lunenburg. A memorial service celebrating Glenda’s life will be held Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at Bridgewater United Church, Bridgewater, Rev. Ronald Frampton, officiating. Interment will be in Brookside Cemetery, Bridgewater. Donations may be made to the Bridgewater United Church, the Canadian Cancer Society or your favourite charity.
