Dennis O'Donnell

Edward “Dennis” O’Donnell was born on May 28, 1924 in Toronto. Dennis passed away peacefully at the age of 92 on January 11, 2017 at the Bay Haven Senior Care Community in Collingwood. Predeceased by his mother and father, Josephine and Jack, his brother John and sister Theresa, Dennis is survived by his young sister Carol (Paul). Dennis also leaves June, the love of his life and his wife of more than 70 years. He will be greatly missed by his children, Denise Hackett, Brian (Janice) and Debbie Spencer (Ross). Known affectionately as Pop Pop by his grandchildren, Sherry Johnson (Doug), Louise Sharp, Greg Hackett (Ramona), P.J. Hackett, Adriana Cusano, Erin Thistle (Trevor), Drew O’Donnell (Christine), Tom Spencer (Brieann) and Pam Spencer (Tony). Pop Pop will be fondly remembered by his great grandchildren, Sarah, Calvin, Brianne, Reed, Connor, Lauren, Jake, Maggie, Liam, Ava, Mckennah, Madelynn, Jonah, Renée and Layla; and his 2 great-great grandchildren, Raine and Alyssa. Dennis will be greatly missed by the extended O’Donnell family and his many nieces and nephews. Dennis liked to call himself “Dennis the Menace” and always was known to have a smile on his face and kind greetings to all he met. A proud veteran who served in the navy in World War II, he devoted many years to the North York Veterans Club. Visitation will be held at Fawcett Funeral Home, 82 Pine Street, Collingwood, from 10:30 am Monday January 16, 2017 until time of service at 11:30 with a reception to follow. A private interment will be held on Tuesday January 17, in the Veterans section of York Cemetery in North York. In lieu of flowers donations to VETS Canada http://vetscanada.org/donate.php would be appreciated.
