In Memory of Wayne Thomas 1945-2016 It is with both sadness and gladness that the family announces his death on August 22nd, 2016 at South Centennial Manor at the age of 71. He is survived by his wife of 47 yrs, Gayle (Richter); their children Patricia (Alain Caron) of Laval, Lisa (Stewart Nimmo) of Listowel and David Thomas of South Porcupine; his grandchildren ( he was known to them by “Gramps”) Sarah and Melanie Caron and Xander and Evelyn Nimmo. His brother Bill (Sheila) of Etobicoke, Rob (Deb) of Cobourg and sister in law Karen Richter (Wayne Griese) of Pakenham, as well as 3 nieces and 2 nephews. Wayne was born in Kirkland Lake, raised in Virginiatown and after attending the University of Toronto made his home in Iroquois Falls. He was very proud to be a true northerner who lives in God’s country, as he was so fond of saying. He taught History, English and was the librarian at IFSS for 31 yrs. He coached basketball, both girls and boys for many years. He was actively involved in his school federation and held several executive positions in that organization. He was a town councillor for 15 yrs, member of Timmins and District Hospital Board when it was built, member and chair of Anson General Hospital Board. He was also president and member of Abitibi Golf Club. He loved most sports especially winter ones – hockey, downhill and cross-country skiing and snowshoeing and keeping fit was very important to him. He was an avid reader and lover of books. He loved music and dogs. After he retired he and his wife travelled extensively around the world with friends and he got to fulfil one of his greatest dreams and walk along the Great Wall of China. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to South Centennial Manor- recreation program; The Alzheimer Society – Timmins or Trinity United Church Memorial Fund designed for Mission and Service. Family and friends may call on Thursday, August 25, 2016 from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Trinity United Church followed by a celebration of Life at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to South Centennial Manor, the Alzheimer’s Society of Timmins, or the Trinity Memorial Fund – Mission and Service and would be appreciated by the family.
