Betty Sheppard Obituary

Betty Anne Sheppard (nee Couling), born April 5th, 1932 in Guelph, ON to Gerald and Hattie Couling (nee Armstrong), passed away peacefully in her sleep at Health Sciences North on January 8th, 2017. Betty married the love of her life, Ian, on May 24, 1952 in Garson, ON. Ian passed away in November, 2001. Betty was also pre-deceased by her parents and her four siblings, Robert (Bob), Richard (Dick), Marilyn and Ruth. Surviving Betty are her four children; Rodney, David, Gordon and Linda along with numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great grandchildren. It's difficult to sum up a person's life in a few paragraphs. What truly stands out about Betty was her sense of humour, gregariousness and her absolute love for puzzle-making and playing board and card games, especially Bridge, Scrabble (which she almost always won), Yahtzee and Cribbage. Even in the final days of her life she could be found at the kitchen table playing one game or another. In her younger years she enjoyed dancing, cross-country skiing and was an active member of the Falconbridge Curling Club often recounting the wonderful times she had at bonspiels with her friends. Undoubtedly, it was her strength of will and sense of humour that helped her through some very difficult and trying health challenges and endeared her to those who met her. It's impossible to adequately express our gratitude to all of the people who have come to know, love, embrace and care for our Mom over the years. It's equally impossible to individually thank all those who have expressed their sympathy and support to our family at this sad time. But, we would be remiss if we didn't say that there is a special place in our hearts for the entire Carroll/Hodge and Maurice/Albina families. To each and every one of you, your love, compassion and support for our Mom is and was amazing, we thank you, and we know that she loved you all dearly. In accordance with Betty’s wishes, there will be no visitation or services. Arrangements entrusted to the Lougheed Funeral Home.
