Brother’s Tom, Dave and Rick are asking family and friends to join together at 2pm with a tribute to Fred’s Life at 3pm. Followed by a light luncheon and Fred’s favourite pie and ice cream. Fredrick William Grylls, born August 5, 1947, Saskatoon, Sask., – December 3, 2016. In loving memory of Fred Grylls who passed into God's Hands suddenly on Saturday December, 3, 2016. He was the 3rd son of Norman and Agnes (Nancy) Grylls, both predeceased. Brother to Thomas and Jeannine (predeceased) - Michael and Aline - Paul, Jennifer - Jonathan, Jake; Patrick (predeceased); Daryl and Dee; Jacques and Diane - Sheldon, Maxine. Brother to Dave and Sheila, Belle River - Shawn and Shelley – Wesley and Joshua; Jason and Kathy - Trevor and Dalton. Brother to Richard and Linda – Chanda and Steve Mahaffy - Celia and Kalem; Alisa and Gavin Bray – Nolan and Harper. Brother to Robert – predeceased – Andrew (Grylls) Sawyer. The Grylls family moved back to Ontario to O'Donohue Drive in Garson in 1952, and finished raising their family. Fred, in his teen and early adult years loved making his VW dune buggies, hunting and fishing. In his later years he was especially happy with his Willy's Jeep. He always seemed to be working on something. Fred was involved with many local sports groups, including the Garson Ridge Runners, teaching firearm safety and fish and game groups. Not a friend of the kitchen, Fred ventured into owning a restaurant in Garson for a while. He was a true connoisseur of local eating establishments and in the last number of years held court on a daily basis at Randy's Roadside Restaurant in Wahnapitae. Although a life long bachelor he always had a place at the table for him at family gatherings at Rick and Tom's homes, and visited his brother Dave in Belle River as often as possible, and often travelled across the country visiting other family relatives. He always found enough change in his pockets to share with his nieces and nephews, whom he loved dearly. Known to some as “Mr. Grumpy” or to others as “Fearless Fred”, deep down he was a very good man with a big heart. After his second piece of pie or cake and an after dinner snooze on a sofa, his smile of happiness and contentment always shone. Fred retired from Inco and spent many happy retired years. He was always strong and independent until the day he left us. In the last few years some health issues including a stroke in 2015 slowed him down to the point where his family and friends were called upon for a little extra help. We wish to thank the paramedics, emergency and ICU staff who supported Fred and his family during his last hours with us. He passed peacefully, with no suffering and with his family close by. Thanks to all his Garson and area friends of his early years and those new circle of friends during these last years in Wahnapitae. Randy's Roadside Restaurant was Fred's “kitchen”. The people here at the gas bar and Gary's Garage were Fred's daily life. Thanks to Randy, Richard and Pam, and all the staff for being there. A special thanks to Emma Lamarche who formed a strong friendship of “being there” with Fred. As per Fred's wish he will be cremated. A celebration of Fred's life with interment in Park Lawn Cemetery will take place in the spring of 2017. If you wish to donate in Fred's memory please consider Autism Ontario, Sudbury Chapter. Arrangements entrusted to the Lougheed Funeral Home.
