Alfred L. Sanford, 86, of Barling, Arkansas passed away on Sunday, January 1, 2017 in a local hospital. He was born on March 16, 1930 in West Helena, Arkansas to Alden and Minnie Irene (Shackleford) Sanford. He was a retired U.S. Air Force Master Sergent of the Korean War and was awarded the Purple Heart. He was preceded in death by his wife Norma and a brother, Oscar Sanford. A memorial service will be held at 1:00PM, Friday, January 6, 2017 at Ocker-Putman Funeral Home Chapel with burial with honors to follow at the U.S. National Cemetery. He is survived by his two daughters, Cathy Choate of Fayetteville, AR and Becky Crandall of Barling, AR; one son, Steven Sanford of Van Buren, AR and one granddaughter, Taylor Crandall of Barling, AR Memorials may be made to the Sebastian County Humane Society 3800 Kelley Highway, Fort Smith, Arkansas 72904.
