Rev. Talmadge O.D. Winfrey of Tuckerman, Arkansas, passed from this life on Thursday, January 12, 2017 at his home at the age of 86. He was born October 9, 1930 in Hoxie, Arkansas, the son of W.R. and Sally (Ross) Winfrey. Rev. O.D. Winfrey was a retired minister. He had been a pastor of several Free Will Baptist Churches throughout Northeast Arkansas and Southeast Missouri. He was ordained in 1950 as a minister of the Gospel, and he held true to the faith until the very end. He was a current member of the Ballew’s Chapel Free Will Baptist Church in Grubbs. Rev. Winfrey also worked as a MayTag Appliance repairman in the 70’s and 80’s. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping. His greatest love and joy was time spent with his family. Rev. Winfrey was preceded in death by his parents; one son, David Earl Winfrey; two daughters-in-law, Dona Shaffer Winfrey and Carolyn Wooldridge Winfrey; two brothers, Lohman “Curly” Winfrey, and Theodore “Skeet” Winfrey; and two sisters, Gladys Colvy and Wanda Winfrey Madden. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Estalene (Nicholas) Winfrey of the home; two sons, Danny Winfrey of McCrory, and Donald Winfrey and wife, Tammy, of Walnut Ridge; one brother, Tom “T.W.” Winfrey and wife, Beverly, of Phoenix, Arizona; seven grandchildren, Scott, Pam, Chris, Jennifer, Sarah, William, and Alex; eighteen great-grandchildren; and a lifetime of friends. Friends may visit at the funeral home, Monday, 5-8 p.m. Funeral services are 10:00 a.m. Tuesday at Jackson’s Newport Funeral Home Chapel, with interment following in Calvin Crossing Cemetery. Those honored to serve as pallbearers are John Ivy, Anthony Ivy, Steve Sykes, Danny Allen, Mike Allen, and Terry Holland. Honorary pallbearers are the Area Free Will Baptist Ministers and Wives, and his Ballew’s Chapel Free Will Baptist Church Family.
