Victor William Amato Obituary

Victor William Amato passed away September 24, 2016 in Claremont, CA. He was born on June 25, 1950 in Oceanside, Nassau County, New York. His parents were Victor Frank Amato and Cecelia De Franco Amato. Victor was married to Patricia East for 21 years. He had a son, Robert Stephen Amato, who passed away in 2011, and together Patty and Victor had a son, Victor James (“Jimmy”) Amato.

Victor attended Chaffey College and went on to receive a Bachelor's degree in Psychology from Cal State Los Angeles. He later attended Harbor College. He served in the U.S. Navy as a medical corpsman, and was honorably discharged in 1980. Victor has worked as a substitute teacher, and has done security work at various locations including Ontario Airport and Warner Bros. Studios. He has also worked as a driver and delivery person. For the past 15 years he has worked as a Traffic and Safety Officer for the City of Los Angeles at L.A. International Airport.

Victor was known for his sense of humor; he enjoyed doing stand up comedy, often at Flappers in Claremont, and going to see other comics. He loved classic films, especially westerns, and was a member of AFI. He enjoyed music and going to concerts to hear Bob Dylan, the Stones, Tony Bennett and Glen Campbell. He loved live theater, whether it was seeing Jimmy in Children's Theater productions, other plays and musicals, or seeing Robin Williams and Jerry Seinfeld. When he was young, Victor excelled in sports, especially football, baseball and shot put.

He leaves behind his wife, Patty, his son Jimmy, his brother, Joe, and many other friends and family members. He was preceded in death by his father, Victor F. Amato in 1959, brother Jimmy A. Amato in 1968, son Robert Amato in 2011, and his mother, Cecelia Amato in 2016.
