Deloss Shull

D. Carlton Shull, 92, of Greeley, CO passed away Sunday, March 12, 2017 at Meadow View Assisted Living. He was born January 9, 1925 in Sioux City, Iowa to Deloss Perkins and Marguerite Clare (Knapp) Shull where he spent his childhood. Carlton graduated with a BS from Brown University and received his JD from the University of Michigan Law School. During World War II he enlisted in the US Navy and was honorably discharged as a Lieutenant Commander with the Seabees. On August 18, 1956, he married Carolyn E. Corbett in Sioux City, Iowa where they made their home and raised their children. After 41 years of practicing law Carlton retired and with Carolyn, he enjoyed summers on Crandall’s Beach, Spirit Lake, Iowa and winters in Port Aransas, Mustang Island, Texas. In 2010 they moved to Greeley to be closer to family. Carlton enjoyed sailing, tennis, woodworking and world travel. In his later years, Carlton was a voracious reader and spent a great deal of time studying history. He was a member of Sioux City Rotary Club, the Rivercade Board of Directors, and the American Bar Association. He was also a member of the Spirit Lake Yacht Club and was a lifelong member of the First Congregational Church in Sioux City. His family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation for the care he received at Grace Pointe, Meadow View and Accent Care. Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Corbett Shull of Greeley; daughters, Elizabeth S. Donalds of Dover, MA and Katherine S. Yockey of Greeley, CO; four grandchildren, Emma Gallagher of Boston, Morgan Yockey of Greeley, Charles Donalds of Dover and Zachary Yockey of Greeley; sisters, Sarah “Sally” Conner of Sioux City and Joan “Jody” Phillips of Boulder, CO; nephews, John Conner, William Conner, James Phillips, Carey Michael Phillips, and Jeffrey Phillips; niece, Susan Conner. He was preceded in death by his parents and his son, Andrew C. Shull. Services will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the “Salvation Army”, “Orphaned and Injured Wildlife Inc.” located in Spirit Lake or the “Weld Food Bank” in care of Adamson Cares, 2000 47th Ave., Greeley, CO 80634.
