Joan L. (Lieb) Schmid, 82, of Greenfield, MA and formerly of Enfield, CT, entered into Eternal Life on Monday Oct. 31, 2016 at Baystate Franklin Medical, Ctr. in Greenfield, MA. Joan was born on Nov. 26, 1933 in Altoona, PA, to the late Camillus and Dorothy (Gehrdes) Lieb. On July 10, 1954 she was married for 50 years to the late Walter William Schmid who passed Jan. 30, 2005 and they had resided in Enfield for many years. Joan was proud of her involvement in the Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts. A devout Roman Catholic she was a parishioner of All Saints Church in Somerville, CT and was a Third Order Camelite, she was a close friend with many of the Felician Sisters. Joan was a devoted mother who leaves behind three childen, eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; her daughter, Mary Rita Gordon of Greenfield, MA, her three children, Jeffrey Safford & his wife Annie of Belchertown, MA, their children, Xavier & Ulysses; Dennis Safford & his wife Ashley of Ware, MA, their children, Kyle & Zachary; Michael Safford & his wife Mindi of South Deerfield, MA, their children, Jakob, Ryan & Alex; her son John Schmid & his wife Betsy of Litchfield, CT, their two children, Hayley Schmid of San Francisco, CA and Evan Schmid of Boston, MA; her son David & his wife Patricia of Tolland, CT, their three children, Ashley Schmid, Joshua Schmid & Luke Schmid. She is also survived by her brother, Edward Lieb & his wife Gloria of Florence, SC and her sister, Mary Jane Watt & her husband Tom of York, PA; along with many nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends may gather with her family during calling hours on Thursday Nov. 3, from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at Browne Memorial Funeral Chapels, Enfield, CT. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday Nov. 4, 2016 at 11:00 am (Please meet at church) in All Saints Church 25 School St. Somersville, CT. Interment will follow the Mass in the Hazardville Cemetery, Enfield, CT. In lieu of flowers memorial donations in her memory may be made to the Felician Sisters Convent 1315 Enfield St. Enfield, CT 06082.
