Fletcher Ellsworth Cooper

Fletcher Ellsworth Cooper, 79, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, July 8, 2012. He was the devoted husband of Mary (Lamb) Cooper, with whom he celebrated his 52nd wedding anniversary last week.

Born in Chicago, Illinois on May 11, 1933, he was the son of the late Gilbert and Marjorie (Nicol) Cooper. A U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War, he was an electrician and owner of Cooper Electric. Fletcher had been the Litchfield Fire Marshall, President of the Bantam Historical Society, and past Post Commander of the Bantam American Legion, Post No. 44. He was also a member of the V.F.W.

An avid historian, he was the author of “The Trains Never Came” and “The Shepaug Railroad 1872 – 1948.” He was very interested in the trains and railroad system and was the unofficial Bantam historian.

Fletcher is survived by his son, David F. Cooper and his wife, Tina, of Torrington; his daughter, Catherine Cooper of Litchfield; and two grandsons, Ryan and Evan, who were the light of his life.

He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.
