Harriett Eleanor Kelm passed away on Tuesday, December 25, 2012. She was born on October 30, 1926 in Torrington, the daughter of the late Ferdinand and Emeline (Newbury) Kelm. Harriett was a 1944 honors graduate of Torrington High School and received a B.S. cum laude from the School of Commerce, New York University. She was employed in the office of the Executive Vice President of New York University for five years, and then served for over twenty years as Executive Assistant to the Executive Vice President of The Ralph M. Parsons Company, New York City, and the President of its East Coast subsidiary, Parsons-Jurden Corporation. Upon her return to Torrington, she became secretary/assistant to the Torrington Plant Manager of Timex Corporation. Harriett was a volunteer at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital and the Torrington Historical Society. She served as president of Master Gamma Chapter, Beta Sigma Phi from 1995 to 1996, and she was a member and officer of The Torrington Woman’s Club. She was an over 50-year member of the First United Methodist Church, Torrington, and enjoyed gardening. She was predeceased by a sister, Emeline Pauline Kelm, and a brother, Ferdinand E. Kelm. Harriett is survived by several cousins. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 29, at Nutting-Rowe Funeral Home, 283 Torrington Road, Litchfield. Burial will follow in Hillside Cemetery, Torrington. Friends and family may call from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday at the funeral home.
