Roland Petit

Roland “Pete” Petit, 75, loving husband of Carol (Rosadene) Petit, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Nov. 23, 2016, at MidState Medical Center surrounded by his family after a brief illness. Born in Meriden on Oct 9, 1941, Pete was the son of the late Emma (Aubin) and Roland A. Petit Sr. He was a member of the first senior class that graduated from Maloney High School in 1959 and played on the varsity basketball and tennis teams. He also proudly served in the U.S. Army Reserves. Pete worked at Greenbacker’s Dairy for many years as a milkman. He then switched careers and became an auto mechanic where he became the owner and operator of Mac & Bill’s Service Center. He was also a real estate agent in Meriden and eventually owned his own business, Hutnik-Petit Real Estate. Before retiring, he was a Service Manager at Personal Auto Care. “Papa” as he was known in his later years, was an avid sports fan; he loved his Boston Red Sox, New York Giants and UConn Huskies. He also loved to play and watch golf and especially enjoyed his golfing trips to Myrtle Beach with his son and son-in-law. He also enjoyed playing in tennis tournaments with his daughter. In his free time at home, he enjoyed gardening and his backyard fish pond. Surviving are his beloved wife of 54 years, Carol Petit; daughter, Lynn Campbell and his son-in-law Shawn Campbell of East Berlin; son, Michael Petit of Berlin; two grandchildren, Ryan Campbell and Nathan Campbell of East Berlin. He is also survived by his brothers; Paul Petit of Meriden and Richard Petit of Florida and his wife Sharon; nephews, Richard and Bryan Petit of Florida; niece, Michelle Petit of Meriden and aunt, Jean Petit. He was predeceased by his brother, Arthur Petit, nephew, James Petit and in-laws James and Barbara Rosadene. The funeral will be held on Tuesday, November 29th at 9:15 from the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 East Main Street, Meriden, CT 06450 and at 10 a.m. at St. Laurent Church, 121 Camp St., Meriden, CT 06450 for a Mass of Christian Burial. Burial will be in St. Laurent Cemetery. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 4 to 6 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to the CT Humane Society, 701 Russell Rd, Newington, CT 06111.
