Mildred Cook, age 96, of Venice FL and formerly of Branford, passed away on Thursday, November 17, 2016 in her home. She was born on June 7, 1920 in West Haven to the late John and Ida Kimmerle Ziegler. Before retiring, she was employed by the UI Company in the billing and receivable department. Mrs. Cook is survived by her great nephews Gary Cooper and his wife Lisa of Southington and Rob Cooper and his partner Laurie Champagne of Branford, great great nephews Garrett and Shane and many friends especially Sue and Arnold Hughey of Venice, FL. Besides her parents, she is predeceased by her loving husband John Cook, sister Jeanette Gardiner and niece Barbara Cooper and her husband James. The family would like to give special thanks to the nursing staff at the Windsor of Venice and Tidewell Hospice of Venice. A graveside service will be held in Beaverdale Cemetery, 90 Pine Rock Rd., New Haven on Wednesday, November 23, 2016 at 11am. Smith Funeral Home, 135 Broad St., Milford is handling the arrangements.
