Norma Lucille O’Connell, age 96, of Milford, passed away on December 18, 2016, at the Newington Rapid Recovery Center. She was born on November 8, 1920 in New Haven to the late Wellington and Bertha Briggs Harrison. Before retiring, she was employed by the Milford Board of Education in the food department. An active member of the community, she volunteered in the Milford Senior Center and Milford Hospital. She will be remembered as a faithful supporter of many charities and for caring and giving to anyone who needed her. In her spare time, she loved to travel, especially on the senior trips. Mrs. O’Connell is survived by her devoted children Maureen Sullivan and her husband William of Rocky Hill and John O’Connell and Aileen O’Connell of Milford, beloved grandchildren Kathleen Sullivan, William Sullivan and his wife Kristen, Patricia Kowalski and her husband Matthew, Michael Sullivan and his wife Kelly, Lauren Vanney and her husband Aaron, John O’Connell and Daniel O’Connell, great grandchildren Mary Katherine, Sean, Emily, Matthew, Thomas, Collin, Ryan, Patrick, Veronica, Jack and Lola. She also leaves behind her dear niece Diane Scripture and a brother-in-law Herbert Scripture. Beside her parents, she is predeceased by her loving husband John Beers O’Connell, former Captain of Milford Police Dept. The family of Norma will be forever grateful for the kindness and compassion shown to her by her care providers at Newington Rapid Recovery Center. We especially would like to thank Margaret, Flo and Sandra for their personal touch. Calling hours are Wednesday, December 21, 2016 from 9:00am to 11:00am at the Smith Funeral Home, 135 N Broad St., Milford. A funeral service will be held in the funeral home at 11:00am after the visitation. Interment will follow in Kings Highway Cemetery.
