Barbara Darcey

Barbara M. Darcey, 80, of Tolland, CT died peacefully on Tuesday November 22, 2016. Barbara was the loving wife of Walter A. Darcey for 60 years. Barbara was born in Bridgeport, CT on December 19, 1935, daughter of Albert J and Helen (Pocsay) Kerkin Sr. Early in her life, Barbara and her family moved to a very rural Tolland to live with her father’s parents on Grant Hill Rd. Her family then moved to Rockville. She graduated from St. Bernard Elementary School and Rockville High School, class of 1953. She also spent a brief time at the University of Connecticut. Barbara married the love of her life, Walter in 1956. The newlyweds started their journey on Sunny View Drive in Vernon, where, five years later, they welcomed the second love of their life, their son Tom into their family. She worked at Rockville Hospital and later took over office duties for her husband’s business, Darcey Furniture. But above all she was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. The things she most enjoyed were attending Walt’s softball games, reading romance novels, making her famous chocolate chip and oatmeal raisin cookies, baking apple pies, attending her grandchildren’s school events and hosting family holidays and dinners at the Darcey Residence, especially the 4th of July party and Christmas Eve with the Darcey’s which included a visit from Santa! Barbara is survived by her husband Walter; her son, Thomas J. Darcey and his wife Amanda and her grandchildren, Aidan, Brenna, Owen and Will of Coventry; her brother, Albert J. Kerkin, Jr. and his wife Joan of Tolland; her sister, Patricia White and her husband Wallace of Oak Bluffs, MA; her sister, Joan (Korkie) Kerkin of Albuquerque NM; and sister-in-law Harriet Darcey of Lynden, WA, along with many nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the staff at Fox Hill Center in Vernon for the loving and compassionate care that was provided to Barbara. Relatives and friends are welcome to join the family at the Tolland Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Merrow Road (Rte. 195), Tolland, CT on Sunday November 27, 2016 from 2-5pm. A memorial service will immediately follow at the funeral home. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
