G. Craig Roselli Obituary

G. Craig Roselli died Tuesday, July 3, 2012 at St. Francis Hospital. Mr. Roselli was born January 4, 1939 in Everett, MA and graduated from Maryville College (TN) and the University of Iowa. Craig taught Latin in MA and NY before spending 15 years at Shawnee High School in Medford, NJ until his retirement in 1994. Mr. Roselli was an outstanding teacher and was proud of the many gold and silver medals his students were awarded each year after taking The National Latin Exam. He knew it was a challenge to convince high school students that Latin could be interesting, and would often win them over by beginning each day with a few moments of sports’ talk. His students were pleased, but soon realized Mr. Roselli had time to discuss sports when the Boston teams won, but “time was of the essence” when Philadelphia had won. Craig was a patron of the arts. He loved classical music, enjoyed stage plays and all that was offered by the cultural scene. He had a passion for traveling, sometimes chaperoning trips to Greece and Italy. His fellow teacher and dear friend, Joyce Burns, accompanied him on his travel adventures. They made a great travel team as they toured the world. Mr. Roselli lived during retirement in an apartment at the home of his devoted sister, Mary Ann Ostop and her husband, Dick, of Simsbury, CT. Dick and Craig spent many hours together rooting for their favorite teams. Craig leaves his talented niece, Kim, and his loving nephew Mike, Mike’s wife, Jeanine, and their daughters, Deidra and Nicole. Craig and Mike spent many precious hours discussing politics, nationally and locally, and of course, sports. Mr. Roselli’s family included his sister, Linda and her husband Norm Thompson of Florida and the Kukiolczynski family of Bristol, CT. Craig also leaves a group of loving and caring friends from Shawnee High affectionately referred to as “the gang.” He will sorely be missed by his NJ family. There will be no calling hours and burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honor Craig can make a donation in his memory to the Simsbury Ambulance Association, P.O. Box 301 Simsbury, CT 06070; Community Policing c/o Simsbury Police Dept., 933 Hopmeadow Street, Simsbury, CT 06070; the Simsbury Pubic Library, 725 Hopmeadow Street, Simsbury, CT 06070; or to a charity of the donor’s choice. Vincent Funeral Home of Simsbury, CT is caring for the arrangements. Please visit Craig’s “Book of Memories” at www.vincentfuneralhome.com for online condolences.
