January 19, 1924 – August 8, 2012

On August 8, 2012, John Repp's soul was embraced by God's hands. Born in Canton, on January 19, 1924 to Margaret Corcoran and George Repp, where he lived his entire life. He became part of "America's Greatest Generation" at 19 when he enlisted in the U. S, Air Force and became a 2nd Lieutenant and co-pilot of a B-24 Liberator during WWII. On his 5th mission in the European theater he was shot down and parachuted into enemy territory. He was captured and became a P. O. W. for a long six months in Barth, Germany. After being liberated by the Russians he returned home and attended Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute on the G.I. bill. John graduated in 1950 with a degree in Aeronautical Engineering. He was hired by I. B. M. as a field engineer where he repaired and maintained computers-back when they took up an entire room. John retired after 37 years of service. However, never one to let the grass grow under his feet, he spent fifteen years of retirement being a handyman for Duncaster in Bloomfield, CT. In 1948 he married Dorothy Volovski, also from Canton, and together they raised four children. John was a quiet man with a "get it done" attitude. He was kind, patient, honorable, regimented, and devoted. He gave his family a warm safe environment to grow up in and his children were fortunate enough to care for him during his later years. Our dad was an American hero and he was our hero too. John was predeceased by Dorothy, his wife of 62 years, and their lovely daughter Janet, his two older brothers David and Paul Repp, and sisters Mary and Margaret. He is survived by his sister Kathleen Woolam of Canton, his daughter Donna Burkhardt and husband Ken of Canton, sons, John Repp and wife Joan of Doylestown, PA. and Tim Repp and wife Elisabeth of Pleasant Valley. His four beloved grandchildren, Emma and her husband Todd Spano, Julia and her fiance, Nate Regis, and Meggie Rose, and Eve Corcoran. Many neices and nephews, and a "kissin' cousin". His caretakers, whom we can never thank enough include, Melody Maher, Jim Caron, Eileen Moran, Jane Ochs, Margot Pierson, and Bakhodir Madjitov. Also, Cherry Brook Nursing Home, the VNA, and McLean Hospice Care. In lieu of flowers please send any donations to The Canton Historical Society or the McLean Home Hospice Care. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, August 13, at 11:00 AM at St. Patrick’s Church, Collinsville. Burial with Military Honor’s will be in Dyer Cemetery, Canton.
