Gerald E. “Moon” Mullins, Sr., 85, a lifelong resident of Stamford, passed away on Sunday March 22, 2015 with his loving family by his side. Jerry was born in Stamford on April 26, 1929 to the late John and Delia Beirne Mullins. Jerry proudly served as a Paratrooper in the US Army during the Korean War. He was the hardest working man from the “Cove”, having worked sixteen years without a day off. He was a self made business man, entrepreneur and real estate tycoon. His home away from home was Cape Cod, MA. Jerry put his family before anything else, having always made his family feel safe. Larger than life, his generosity shown through with his longtime support of numerous charities and local sports leagues. His favorite catch phrase was the iconic Jackie Gleason line “How sweet it is!” Jerry is survived by his loving wife Dorothy Gronau Mullins, his sons; Gerry Mullins, Jr. and his wife Patty Ann of Stamford, Bryan Mullins and his wife Maureen of Stamford, Patrick Mullins and his wife Ticia of Sandy Hook, CT, his grandchildren; Gerry III, Erin, Casey, Samantha, Sean, Bryan, Jr., Jamie, Patrick, Jr. and Shannon Mullins, his great granddaughter Leah Mullins and his sister Irene Sirico of New Canaan. Several loving nieces and nephews and many great friends, too numerous to mention, also survive. Besides his parents, Jerry is predeceased by his siblings Jane Stanek, John Mullin, Margaret Marcel and Madeline Hoder. A funeral procession will leave the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Avenue, Stamford, CT, on Friday March 27, 2015 at 9:10AM and proceed to Holy Spirit RC Church, 403 Scofieldtown Road, Stamford, CT for a Mass of Christian Burial to be held at 10:00AM. Interment will follow at Fairfield Memorial Park Cemetery, Oaklawn Avenue, Stamford. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday March 26, 2015 from 4:00 to 8:00PM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, KS or www.woundedwarriorproject.org/donate.
