    Obituary for Edward Carroll

    Edward J. Carroll, 76, of East Hartford, loving husband for 53 years of the late Ruth (Johnson) Carroll, peacefully passed away on Friday (November 18, 2005) at St. Francis Hospital. Born in East Hartford, a son of the late Richard and Ethel (Harris) Carroll, he had been a life-long resident of the town. Ed was a communicant of St. Christopher Church, East Hartford and a former Scout Master for the Boy Scouts Troop #61, East Hartford. He was a former baseball coach of the East Hartford American Little League, where he coached Ram Roofing. Ed was a 32-year member of Alcoholics Anonymous where he enjoyed dedicating his life to helping people. He was a founding partner and operator for 21 years of Carroll's Courier Service in East Hartford. Ed also ran a Hot Dog Stand for several years on Burnside Avenue, East Hartford called "Barney's Dog House". When time allowed, Ed enjoyed gardening and entertaining at his home, especially for his entire family. He was also an avid fan of UCONN sports. Besides his beloved wife and parents, a sister, Anna Mae Carroll of East Hartford, predeceased Ed. Mr. Carroll leaves his four children, Elaine Foran and her husband, Quigley, of Farmington, Anne C. Gorecki of Unionville, Edward Carroll Jr. and his wife, Laura-Lee, of Manchester, David Carroll and his wife, Maria, of South Windsor; a sister, Irene Pilius and her husband, William, of East Hartford; ten special grandchildren, Jeremy, Joe, Sarah, Jim, Rachel, Joanne, Ed III, Amber, Ben, and Marcus; six adored great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Ed will always be in our hearts and may he rest in God with Ruth. Funeral service will be Tuesday, November 22, at 10:15 a.m. from the D'ESOPO-East Hartford Memorial Chapel, 30 Carter Street, East Hartford with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 11 a.m. at St. Christopher Church, 538 Brewer Street, East Hartford. Private burial will be held at the convenience of the family. His family will receive friends at the funeral home chapel on Monday, November 21, from 4-7 p.m. In lieu of donations, Ed's family asks that you please perform an act of kindness in Ed's memory.
