Anthony Jenkins Obituary

Anthony Duane “Tony” Jenkins was born to Pastor John W. Jenkins Jr. and Jeanie Carolyn Thornton, May 22, 1974. In his early teens, Tony made the biggest and best decision of his life. He gave his life to Jesus Christ. His love for music, especially the drums, was one of the ways he expressed worship with his family and friends. Tony was “The Master Drummer.” Tony began his career working with kids as a Juvenile Correctional Officer. He thought he could have a better impact working with the youth by mentoring, so that they could avoid becoming a part of “the system.” He also, began working with kids in a behavioral intervention capacity. That's when he met Enédine B. Andre’ while at South Plantation High School. Encouraged by one of his basketball players to approach her. He walked into Enédine’s class the next day after school and introduced himself. She told him to “go away.” Of course, he didn't.  Soon after, Enedine accepted his gracious proposal of marriage. They welcomed their first born son, Jaden Jenkins, September 30, 2001. Jaden was a picture image of his father. They only enjoyed Jaden for a short time. He was called home to await the arrival of his father. To their surprise a short time later they welcomed their little girl into the world, Nyah Toni Jenkins, born January 2, 2003. According to him she was the baby girl with a head full of curls he saw in his dreams when Enedine announced they were expecting again. Nyah mended his broken heart and was the love of his life. He still called her "the baby"... even at the age of 13! Anthony earned his Associates of Science degree in Early Childhood Education from Ashworth University in 2005. He coached girls’ basketball since 2000. He loved being a coach. Being competitive. Pushing his girls to be their best. He was also a huge sports fanatic. His favorite teams included the University of Miami Hurricanes, the San Francisco 49ers and the Indian Pacers. Anthony “Tony” Jenkins will always be in the heart and memory of his brother, Eddie Dean Roberts, Jr., his sister Jamie Mallory and his nephew Cayden. An adoring grandmother, Grace D. Jenkins, the Thornton’s Weaver’s, and a host of uncles, aunts, cousins, friends, co-workers and most recently his close friend, LaTonya Cutley and her daughter, Jalyn Wimbush.
