Excel Beckford was born in Flowerhill, Hanover, Jamaica to his parents Uriah and Elsie Beckford. He was the 6th child of 11 children. While growing up he attended Blueville All Age School, following in his father’s footsteps as a farmer after he left school. He was a good looking charming man. He had two nice ladies by the name of Ira and Ruby but ended up marrying Ruby, who stole his heart. They have 4 children, Dawn, Pat, Jassett and June June.
After a long stay in Jamaica, he had a card where he went to America on farm work. He did not go back home he joined his brother Errol Beckford, he also lived in Washington, where he got sick. His beloved sister, Elaine Beckford Joseph, took her baby brother under her foot in the city of Fort Lauderdale to take care of him, where he then resided. He would not stop drinking and smoking which led him to go to the doctor where he was diagnosed with throat cancer. He went through chemotherapy and radiation back and forth fighting till there was nothing else the doctors could do. This put stress on the family but they all held on until that day came on November 6, 2015. Brother Excel Beckford took his last breath at 7:05pm.
Excel fought a good fight with the sickness and now he is gone to rest with his father and brother leaving behind his sisters: Elaine, Joyce, Lovely, Erqa, Kay; brothers: Errol, Earl, Wade, Hope; kids: Dawn, June June, Jasett and Pat and last but not least his mother Elsie Beckford who is pushing 100 years of age. Where the family continues to mourn but is ready for their loved one to be put to rest. We love you Excel.
