George Smith

George James Jefferson Smith, Jr. was born on September 9, 1941 to the late Joshua Smith and Inez Jefferson in Washington County, Panama City, FL. George graduated from Carver High School in Dothan, Alabama. After graduation he attended Allen University in Columbia, South Carolina class of 1967 on a football scholarship. He sustained an ankle injury that ended his football career. Later he relocated to Fort Lauderdale, Florida where he met Margaret Williams. The two became one until his death on September 22, 2015. George retired from the Broward County Utilities Department as a Supervisor after 32 years of service. He became a member of the Refreshing Springs Missionary Baptist Church. George served as a Deacon “until his whole spirit and soul became absent from his body; now he is present with the Lord.” 1 Thessalonians 5:23.” George leaves to cherish his memory, his loving and devoted Wife: Margaret; Sons: Alvin (Valerie), Anthony (April); his Daughters; Margaretta Dupree (October 1987), Debra (Lee); nine Grandchildren: Syretta (Lowrie), Tanaya, Sheena, Sean, Bianca, Alexandria, Kersten, Osianna, Alissa; Great-Grandchildren: Sariah, Ariana, Aniyah, Aiden; Brothers: Josh Smith (Marie); Sisters: Bobby Jean Smith-Carter, Catherine Smith; the late Rose Smith, Quemont Booker, Ernestine Booker, the late Aunt Thelma Lee Brown; Uncle: JC Booker; and a host of loving cousins, nieces, nephews, his church family, and other relatives and friends.
