Robert “Unc” Horn April 16, 1915 – Dec. 29, 2016 Robert (Ralph) Horn, affectionately called Unc, was born on April 16, 1915. He was the fifth child of the late Mr. Charlie Horne and Mrs. Mammie Ruggs Horne. He was a native of Gosport, Alabama, and a resident of Fairfield, Alabama, for over 80 years. He was also a resident of Milton, Florida, for over 20 years. Robert was called home to be with the Lord on Thursday, December 29, 2016, at his residence. Robert was a veteran of the United States Army where he served in WWII and was stationed in the Philippians Island. After his honorable discharge from the Army, he was employed with Birmingham Steel and retired after working there over forty years. Robert united with Little Rock Baptist Church of Gosport, Alabama, at an early age. He later became a member of Mt. Pilgrim Baptist Church of Fairfield, Alabama, where he faithfully served as an usher until his health failed. He later relocated to Milton, Florida. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of twenty-three years, Mrs. Mary Horn; five sisters, Mary Lee Fuller, Jane Horne, Nellie Mae Washington, Annie Lee Horne, and Emma Jones; and five brothers, Charlie Horne, Zannie Johnson, Charlie Horn Jr., Levi Horne and Clarence Horne. Robert had no biological children but was a father and role model to many. He is survived by a devoted nephew and niece-in-law, Robert Curtis & Denitta Horne; nephews, John & Tina Davis of Cocoa, Florida, George Washington Sr. of McIntosh, Alabama, and Sam Washington Jr. of Mobile, Alabama; nieces, Charlie Bell Streeter, Betty Todd, Bernice Allen, all of Mobile, Alabama, Charlymae (Leonard) Eaton of Prichard, Alabama, and Dolline (Larry) Banks of Union City, Tennessee; and a host of nieces, nephews other relatives and friends, one devoted, Ms. Mary Carter. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 7, 2017 at Lewis Funeral Home, Milton Chapel (6405 Hwy. 90 West, Milton, FL 32570), with Dr. Michael D. Moore, of Faith Chapel Christian Center, Birmingham, AL, officiating. Visitation will be held 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m., prior to the services. Burial will be held at 12 noon, Tuesday, January 10, 2017, at George Washington Carver Memorial Gardens, Birmingham, AL.
