Alice Nesbitt Palatka, Florida Obituary

Alice Nesbitt

Alice D. Nesbitt, 96, of Palatka, passed from this life on Saturday, December 24 2016 at Palatka Health Care Center following an extended illness. Alice was born on November 4, 1921 near Galax, VA in Winginia, Virginia. After graduating from high school she attended nursing school in Roanoke, Virginia and became a registered nurse. Alice met Roger on Thanksgiving Day in 1942 and they married on Christmas Day of the same year. Telling the story of their blind date and wedding was always part of our holiday tradition. Alice's life was centered on her family. Children, grandchildren and even some of the great- grandchildren will tell you that Alice never just let anyone win at Yahtzee, Go Fish, or even Dots. She taught us all to play by the rules and play to win. Her house was always filled with good things to eat, especially her famous Black Bottom Cupcakes. Alice had true green thumb. She could get a slip of a plant from a friend and nurture it into a beautiful plant in her landscape. Her table always had flowers and greenery from her yard. Alice was a member of Trinity Methodist Church. Her faith was a constant source of strength for the family. Its roots came from her mother. She prayed for God's perfect will to be done in each of our lives. Alice had a strong devotional life and truly believed in her favorite Bible verse---You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you, Isaiah 26:3. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roger Nesbitt, and two of her grandsons, Gerald Nesbitt and Nicholas Nesbitt. Alice is survived by 4 children: Roger Nesbitt and his wife, Harriett, of Palatka, FL; Ann Deckerhoff and her spouse, Gene, of Tallahassee, FL; Joyce Ansley of Tallahassee, FL; and Bruce Nesbitt of Inverness, FL. Alice is also survived by 9 grandchildren and 20 great- grandchildren. Services will be at 3:00 P.M. Tuesday, December 27, 2016 at Johnson-Overturf Chapel in Palatka with C.L. Overturf, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at Westview Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 2:00 P.M. until the time of services.
