Emmett Lanier

Emmett Andrew “Andy” Lanier, LCDR (RET) USNR, of Crescent City, passed away on Monday, October 31, 2016 at the age of 81. He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Carleta “Lee” Lanier, children, Deborah Noles (Byron) of Corpus Christi, TX, Suzanne Eubanks (Tim Jones) of Crescent City, Jan Wurster (Kirk) of Jacksonville and Jon Tefft (Robbin)of Orange Park as well as 5 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. Born in Raleigh, NC, Andy spent 22 years in the US Navy, having traveled three times around the world, including three tours in and around Vietnam. Considerable time was also spent around Europe and Southeast Asia. He earned numerous medals/awards including the Bronze Star, Air Medals, Navy Expeditionary Medal – Cuba, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal – Cuba, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Navy Achievement Medal, Navy Unit Commendation and Republic Vietnam Armed Forces Meritorious Unit Citation. Andy was a member of the Masons, Scottish Rite, York Rite, Shriners, Moose, Eagles, Fleet Reserve, VFW, American Legion and Florida Gators Boosters. For years Andy enjoyed sending anonymous birthday and anniversary cards to friends and acquaintances far and wide. A memorial service celebrating Andy’s life will be held at 2:00pm on Friday, November 4, 2016 at Johnson-Overturf Chapel in Palatka with Reverend Howard Cox officiating. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be sent to Shriners Hospital for Children, P O Box 31356, Tampa, FL 33631 or Haven Hospice Roberts Care Center, 6400 St. Johns Ave. Palatka, FL 32177.
