Herbert Owen Goodwin, Jr., 67, of East Palatka, passed from this life on Thursday, January 5, 2017 at Flagler Hospital in St. Augustine following a brief illness. He was born in St. Augustine and had been a lifelong resident of Putnam County, graduating from Palatka High School in 1968. He served 6 years in the 292nd Unit of the Palatka Army Reserve. Owen had worked the past 20 years with NAPA Auto Parts and prior to that over 20 years with Certified Grocers. An avid Florida Gator Football Fan, he had served as President of the Putnam County Gator Booster Club and was also a long-time fan of NASCAR with Fireball Roberts being his favorite driver. Some of Owen’s favorite times were spent fishing, having oyster roasts and the Christmas season. Owen is remembered by his family not only a Master Chef but more important as a great husband, father and friend to many. He was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert Owen Goodwin, Sr. and Allene Mullis Goodwin. Owen is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Suzy Turnbull Goodwin of East Palatka, 2 daughters, Michelle Usry (Jonathan) of Palatka and Alyse Kite (Travis Crabtree) of East Palatka, a sister, Kay Ramsey (Anson) of Marietta, GA, 5 grandchildren, Shane-Allan Kite, Jenifer Mullis, Linsey Kite, Jeremy Usry and Kamryn Kite, 2 great-grandchildren, Jayden Peeples and Connor Tilton, his special nieces, Stephanie Reed and Katie Fazio as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Services celebrating Owen’s life will be at 7:00 P.M., tonight, Tuesday, January 10, 2017 at Johnson-Overturf Chapel in Palatka with Pastor Terry Wright officiating. Visitation will Tuesday from 5:00 P.M. until the time of services at 7:00 P.M.
