Samuel James Thomas age 64, of Palatka died November 24, 2016 at Haven Hospice Roberts Care Center following an extended illness. A native and lifelong resident of Palatka he had worked as a painter and had served in the Navy. Sam attended First Baptist Church of Interlachen and enjoyed wood working, watching westerns on television and enjoying the outdoors. Sam is survived by his wife of 14 years, Melonie Thomas and his mother, Macey Thomas, children and step-children, Shad Thomas, Justin Thomas, Nicole Thomas, Doc Ryster, Douglas Vaughn and Rita Vaughn, siblings, Leon Thomas, Jr., Connie Metzler, Debbie Hathcock and Tammie Kechula. grandchildren, Autumn, Anna, Seth, Josie, Holden, Alissa, Kaylie, Rachel, Dylan, Allison, Sarah and Imogene, last, but not least his Great Dane, Sally. Memorial services will be held at 3:00 pm Tuesday November 29, 2016 at Johnson-Overturf Funeral Home in Palatka with Pastor Henry Willis and Pastor Tony Club officiating . No calling hours are scheduled.
