Jewell Ray “Joe”. Cullum, 86, of Pittsburg, passed away at 8:11 a.m., Sunday, March 26, 2017 in Parkway Manor in Marion. Joe was born August 8, 1930 in Parma, Missouri to Claude and Nancy (Barker) Cullum. He married Venita Lucille Miskelley on September 14, 1949 in Marion. Together they have shared 67 years of marriage. Joe was retired having been a coal miner for over 33 years. He last worked at Old Ben Coal Mine #26 in Sesser. He was a member of the UMWA. Joe was a member of Smart Chapel Church in Harco. Joe loved to fish and in his earlier years, he was an avid hunter Survivors include his wife, Venita of Pittsburg; two children, Barbara Kay Dorris of Marion and life partner, Don LaBotte of Marion; Dennis Ray Cullum and life partner, Ellen L. Lambert of Pittsburg; seven grandchildren, David Dorris of West Frankfort, Mark (Jackie) Dorris of West Frankfort; Michelle Currey of Whitwell, TN, Sabrina Currey of Eastridge, GA, Dianna Yeager of GA, Jason (Jackie) Cullum of Carterville and Tammy (Bryan) Braden of Metropolis; several great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Joe was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Carolyn Sue Currey and an infant son, Billy Gene Cullum; two brothers, Virgil and Claude Cullum; sister, Pearlene Joyner; two sons-in-law, Ronnie Dorris and Mickey Currey and a daughter-in-law, Kathie Cullum. Funeral Services will be 1:00 p.m., Thursday, March 30, 2017 at Pyle Funeral Home in Johnston City with speaker, Mike Cullum. Interment will follow at Freedom Cemetery, south of Marion.
