Joe Graff
Joe A. Graff, 88, of Murphysboro, passed away at 10:15 a.m. Thursday, November 17, 2016, at the Century Assisted Living in Carbondale. Joe was born on July 22, 1928, in Levan Township, Illinois to Sherman Thomas Graff and Willa Mae (Jones) Graff. Mr. Graff had served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He had worked in the maintenance department and had served as a school bus driver with the Murphysboro School District # 186. Mr. Graff was a member of the Trinity Baptist Church in Murphysboro. He was a life member of the Paul Stout American Legion Post # 127. Joe was known as a story teller and he could fix anything. He married JoElla Whitson on October 28, 1948, at the Crain Baptist Church, and she preceded him in death on August 28, 2014. He is survived by two sons and daughter in laws and their families, Daniel Joe and Karolyn Graff of Marion and their two children Tammy Lynn Viggato and her husband John Viggato and David Allen Graff and his girl friend Erin Fried; Curtis Ray and Ruthie Graff of Murphysboro and their two children Ryan Mathew Graff and Kimberly Rae and Trent McDaniel and their children Brendon, Logan, Kaitlyn, Megan, and Caroline McDaniel; one brother John LaVerne Graff and his wife Bettie Graff of Murphysboro; and during the military services, Joe made lifelong friends with Clint and Leota Beard and their family of Rogers, Arkansas. He was preceded in death by two sons Randall Scott Graff and James Edward Graff, one sister Erma Marie Green, two infant brothers, and his parents. Funeral services will be held at 12 noon Monday, Nov. 21, 2016, at Pettett Funeral Home with Rev. Gilbert Gee and Rev. Steve Raglin officiating, and burial at Crain Cemetery with Military Services conducted by the Paul Stout American Legion Post # 127. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 12 noon Monday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Crain Cemetery, and will be accepted at the funeral home.
