Cameron Washington

Cameron Steven Washington, age 18, of Marion, passed away peacefully in his sleep with his mother by his side on Wednesday, October 5, 2016 after courageously fighting cancer for two years. Cameron was born on September 11, 1998 in Marion to Teri Velarde and Wayne Washington. He was a senior at Marion High School, where he played football for the Marion Giants and wrestled. He attended First Pentecostal Church of Marion. He was passionate about music, his friends and family, and the Dukes of Hazard. Cameron’s strength and spirit were an inspiration to all who knew him, and to those who followed his story. He was a kind and gentle young man who was a friend to all. He had a wonderful sense of humor and loved to make people laugh. He will be greatly missed. He is survived by his mother, Teri Velarde of Marion; his father, Wayne Washington of Marion; siblings, Stevie Marie Velarde of Marion, Kayla Washington of Maryland, China Richardson of Maryland, Luke Jackson of Marion, and Amaya and Ian Cooper of Fairmount; grandparents, Steve (Kathy) Velarde of Marion and Carrie Washington of Marion; uncle, Eric Velarde of Clearwater, Florida; aunt, Pam Anderson of Marion; uncle Jeff Washington of Fort Wayne; and a multitude of other aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his brother, Jordan Laute of Marion. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 9, 2016 in the Marion High School Gymnasium, 750 W. 26th Street, Marion, Indiana. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Darrin Williams officiating. Burial will immediately follow the funeral service in Grant Memorial Park Cemetery, Marion, Indiana.
