Dorothy C. McKelvey, 90, of Muncie, IN passed away peacefully to be with her Lord at her home with loving family by her side on Friday March 23, 2012. She was born on April 30, 1921, in Huntington, West Virginia the daughter of Frank A. and Sarah E. (McCoy) Walters. She was married to the late Loyd T. McKelvey on January 31, 1941. She loved her family very much and enjoyed spending time with them. She was a member of the Christ United Methodist Church in Selma. She was active with the Selma Ladies Lunch Gathering, Selma Women’s Club and Calebs Kin (GBC). She enjoyed cooking for her family and friends, gardening, needlework, reading, crossword, euchre, hand & foot, traveling, free cell, email, and the Indiana Pacers. She was a devoted, gentle, kind and loving wife, mom, grandma, G-MA, and friend. She worked in the Liberty Perry Cafeteria for 11 years and retired in 1981. She taught Sunday School and VBS. She cooked for summer church camps for many years. Dorothy was a huge supporter of her children’s, grandchildren’s and great-grandchildren’s school and sports activities. Left to cherish her memory are four children; two sons, Paul T. McKelvey (Marilyn) of Ann Arbor, MI; Tim McKelvey (Linda) of Parker City, IN; two daughters, Jude McKelvey of Muncie, IN; Connie McKelvey of Stillwater, OK; friend, Sarah Donelson of St. Louis, MO; two sisters, Norma Stellwag of Muncie, IN; Rachel Sparks (Noel) of Muncie, IN; four grandchildren, Abby Pettigrew (Carl) of Yorktown, IN; Matt McKelvey (Jeanne) of St. Joseph, MI; Marla McKelvey of Ypsilanti, MI; Mandi Lucas (Donnie) of Muncie, IN; four great-grandchildren, Lane Lucas; Carlea Pettigrew; Theresa McKelvey; Elizabeth McKelvey; and several nieces and nephews. Dorothy will be dearly missed by her family and many friends. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband Loyd in 2003, her parents, and two brothers, Ishmael and Delbert Walters. Funeral Services will be 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday March 27, 2012 at Garden View Funeral Home 10501 North State Road 3 Muncie, IN. Pastor Dennis Rush will officiate the service. Burial will follow at the Gardens of Memory Cemetery in Muncie. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be directed to Christ United Methodist Church in Selma or IU Ball Memorial Hospice. A special thank you to the wonderful caregivers of IU Ball Memorial Hospice.
