Marguerite Ellen Sims

Marguerite Ellen Sims, age 96, La Cygne, Kansas passed away on Thursday, August 18, 2016 at the Olathe Hospice House. She was born on April 16, 1920 in Stanton Township, Miami County, Kansas the daughter of William and Hazel Ricketts Skeens. She was a homemaker and married George Verlas Sims on November 21, 1939. He preceded her in death on July 22, 1999. Marguerite was a member of the La Cygne United Methodist Church and the UMW, American Legion Auxiliary, Delta Sigma Chi Bridge Club, and the La Cygne Fiesta Committee. She was also preceded in death by a daughter Judith Turentine, two sons-in-law, James Turentine and James Sims-West, two brothers, William and Warren, and three sisters, Helen, Virginia and Francis. Marguerite is survived by two sons, Thomas Sims and wife Barbara, Warren Sims and wife Cristie, a daughter, Nancy Sims-West, two brothers, Don and Milton Skeens, a sister, Marie Shelden, eight grand and eight great grandchildren. Funeral service will be 10:30 am Monday, August 22, 2016 at the La Cygne United Methodist Church. Burial will be in the Oak Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 pm Sunday at the Schneider Funeral Home and Crematory, La Cygne Chapel. The family suggests contributions to the La Cygne United Methodist Church.
