Robert L. Stillings Obituary

Robert L. Stillings, 78 yrs, a resident of Berwick, Maine died December 9, 2015 in Dover, NH after a brief illness. Robert was born in Dover, NH on May 17, 1937, a son of Maurice B. and Doris E. (Allen) Stillings. He graduated from Berwick High School in the Class of 1954. He served in the US Army and the Army Reserves for over twenty years.


Robert was employed by the Ogunquit Police Department as a Patrolman for several years. He then became police chief for the Town of Waldoboro and also worked for the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department. Robert was a dispatcher for Sanborn’s Transportation of Augusta and later became a Support Enforcement Agent for Maine DHHS. Finally he became the Director of Fraud Investigation and Recovery Unit for the Department of Health and Human Services, retiring in 2004. Robert was a member of the Charles S. Hatch American Legion Post #79 of Berwick, Maine, and the Berwick Historical Society. He enjoyed genealogy, reading and spending time with his family and grandchildren.


He was predeceased by his parents and brothers Richard and Frank and a sister Sylvia.


Robert is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Lois (Hussey) Stillings of Berwick, ME; eight daughters, Catheryn Schweiger and her husband Clifford of Berwick, ME, Cynthia Stillings of Rockland, ME, Amilyn Stillings of Vassalboro, ME, Tina Jarvis and her husband William of Jackman, ME., Paula Stillings of Damariscotta, ME, Stacy Stillings of Berwick, ME, Leslie Stillings of South Berwick, ME, Melissa Stillings and her companion Jeff Lemont of Sabattus, ME; two sisters, Marjorie Dugas of Manchester, NH and Sheila Moody of Groton, MA; nine beloved grandchildren.


Friends may call from 1 to 3 PM on Sunday, December 13, 2015 at Laing-Bibber Funeral Chapel, 36 Rochester Street Berwick, Maine, where an American Legion Service will be held at 2:30 PM. A Graveside Service with military honors will follow at 3:15 PM in Evergreen Cemetery Berwick, ME. Should friends choose, memorial donations in his name are encouraged to: American Legion, Charles S.
