Portland – Valentine “Bubby” Nichols, 71, a resident of Livermore Falls, passed away, late Tuesday evening, November 29th at Maine Medical Center in Portland, surrounded by his loving family, following a longtime battle with heart disease. He was born June 30, 1945 in Farmington, the son the late Theron Nichols and Beverly (King) Nichols. He was a 1965 graduate of Livermore Falls High School. He served in the U.S. Army from 1965 to 1969 during the Vietnam War. On May 13, 1967 he married Betty Merrill of Fayette, and they made their home and raised their family in Livermore Falls. Val worked as a supervisor in the power plant for International Paper Company at the Androscoggin Mill in Jay for 35 years. He retired in 2010. He and his family worked the fairs, running the King Family Cook House. They were well known for their great sausage subs, homemade dinners and pies. He was a member of the Frank L. Mitchell V.F.W. Post 3335 and Amvets Post 33 of Jay. He was a kind, warm, generous person who enjoyed socializing, and was always willing to help if someone needed a hand. More than anything, he loved his family and the time he spent with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was loving and devoted to his family and will be greatly missed. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Betty Nichols of Livermore Falls; his children, Tammy Nichols Burrill and partner Mike Staples of Jay; Valerie Nichols Duval and her husband Scott of Wilton; Jay Nichols of Livermore Falls; and Kelly Goodwin and husband Jared of Jay; 11 grandchildren, Jason Duval and wife K.T., Tyler Duval, Jakob Duval and wife Katie, Levi Pollis and partner Erin Price, Logan Pollis and fiancé David Perry, Zach Nichols, Amelia Nichols, Lydia Lee, and Grace, Madison and Ava Goodwin, 6 great-grandchildren, Emma Foster, Ethan Pollis, Reighlyn, Parker and Henry Duval, and Ivory Pollis; as well as his brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services with full military honors will be held 1PM, Sunday, December 4th at FINLEY FUNERAL HOME, 15 Church Street, Livermore Falls, Maine. Visiting hours will be held from 2-4 & 6-8 PM on Saturday, December 3rd at the funeral home. Interment Pleasant View Cemetery, 51 Fayette Road, Livermore Falls, Maine.
