Daniel Pinette
Millinocket – Dad peacefully passed on in the early morning of November 19, 2016. Dad was born in Millinocket to Percy Joseph Pinette and Winnifred (Ball) Pinette on August 23, 1921. He attended Millinocket schools and graduated from Stearns High School, class of 1938. He was a communicant of St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church. Dad entered the Army Air Corps in 1942 where he served in the Asiatic Pacific Theater in Burma and was honorably discharged in 1946. He is a member of the Donald V. Henry Post #80 of the American Legion in Millinocket. Dad worked and retired from the Great Northern Paper Company as a millwright and was a member of Local 658 of the Carpenters and Joiners. Dad loved to ski and play golf. Working for the weekend would be a likely motto for Dad. During the winter months he would maintain a weekend apartment at Sugarloaf and would ski into the spring until the winters’ snow had turned into spring runoff. He made great friends at Sugarloaf – “More air”. When the time came to hang up the long boards, Dad started cross country or “skinny skiing”. His truck was often parked at Abol where he would ski through the beautiful woods at the base of Mt. Katahdin. In the summer he busied himself playing golf where he was a member of the Hillcrest Golf Club. He loved to ride his bicycle and swim at Togue Pond where he would swim across the pond, which was no small feat, and he would do it on a regular basis. Dad is the last in the line. He was predeceased by his parents and his siblings, Ralph, Robert, Lucille, and John. He was also predeceased by a son Thomas, and his special aunt, Lucille Ball. He is survived by his son Ronald Pinette and wife Corris and their children, Kylie Pinette, Aaron Smith and his wife Sarah, and their son, Booker, and Colleen Clark; a son James and his daughter Karen Rodgerson, and by Lorna’s children Jeremy, Cory, and Brittany Ladd. We would like to extend our thanks to the many people that made him part of their life. Mrs. Carlstrom for the many acts of kindness that supported Dad’s sweet tooth, and Mr. Tracy for keeping his snow blower and lawn mower running as well as the many little acts that sometimes go unnoticed. Thank you also to the staff at Katahdin Health Care for all that they did to make Dad’s days comfortable. It can never be said that Dad wasn’t an interesting individual, living life fully and on his terms. He was quirky, cantankerous, and stubborn, yet very likeable and lovable. He definitely left his mark. Dad touched many in his long life. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 A.M. Thursday December 1 at Christ the Divine Mercy Parish, St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church, 19 Colby Street, Millinocket with the Rev. Bruce Siket, pastor, presider. Interment, with military honors, will be at the Millinocket Cemetery. Gifts in memory of Dad may be sent to the Katahdin Area Support Group, P.O. Box 374, Millinocket, ME 04462.
