Millinocket---Helen M. Lappa, 88, died at a Lincoln health care facility on Friday, October 28, 2005 with her loving husband, Joseph D. Lappa, Jr. and her daughter Carole Jean by her side. Helen was born in East Millinocket on February 26, 1917, the daughter of Joseph Paul and Katherine (Karpavice) Gorris. She was a graduate of Schenck High School, the class of 1935. Helen loved her family and extended family dearly and was very proud of their accomplishments. She was an excellent cook, enjoyed experimenting with herbs and spices, and knew how to bring flavor to any dish. Her pecan and pumpkin chiffon pies were among her famous desserts. Helen enjoyed crocheting and often designed her own patterns. She was an avid reader, enjoying biographies, mysteries, and poetry. At 88, Helen could still recite poems she learned in high school. She had a strong faith in a loving, caring God. She was a communicant of St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church. When she was unable to attend church, she would join the television or radio community at Mass. This was a sacred time for her. Helen is survived by Joseph, her husband of 67 years; her two daughters, Patricia K. Pelletier and her husband George, and Sister Carole Jean Lappa, RSR; three grandsons, Kristian Andre Pelletier, Erik George Pelletier and his wife Stephanie, Noel Jason Pelletier and his wife Erika; three great grandchildren, Kassandra Andrea, Ericka Gabrielle, and Stephan Liam; and many nieces and nephews. Helen was predeceased by an infant daughter, a great granddaughter, Sarah Elizabeth, her parents, Joseph and Katherine Gorris, her brother Albion Gorris, a sister and brother-in-law, Stephanie and William Allen, a sister and brother-in-law, Amelia and Frank Willette. Friends may call at R.L. Bouchard Funeral Home, 11 Tamarack St., Millinocket from 6-8 PM on Sunday, October 30, 2005. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:30 PM, on Monday, October 31 at St. Martin of Tours Catholic Chuch. Burial will be in Millinocket Cemetery. Donations in Helen's memory may be made to the Katahdin Area Support Group, 10 Field St., Millinocket, ME 04462, or to the Sisters of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Retirement Fund, 20 Thomas St., Portland, ME 04102.
