Millinocket and Asuncion, Paraguay – John C. Simpson, 74, died Thursday, November 3, 2016 at his home in Fernando de la Mora , Paraguay. He was born October 9, 1942 in Millinocket, the son of William and Mary Alice (Hopkins) Simpson. John grew up in Millinocket, and was a graduate of Stearns High School, class of 1960. He went on to graduate from the University of Maine, class of 1964 and attended the University of Vermont Medical School for 2 years. A science teacher, he taught in several schools in Maine. In 1977 he joined the Peace Corps and did International Teaching in Samoa, Grenada, Paraguay, Oman, Burkina Faso, and Turkey. After retiring from teaching, he moved permanently to Paraguay. John is survived by two sisters, Nadine Boynton and Jean Nuss and her husband Harry; a brother, William Simpson and his wife Jean; seven nieces, Mary Ellen Tapley, Susan Tower, Sharon Bozzi, Nancy Assetta, Vicki Nuss-Loftus, Florrie Randall, and Sara Brown; two nephews, Jeff Nuss and Frank O’Keefe; several great nieces and nephews and cousins, and many friends all over the world. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a sister, Mildred O’Keefe, two brothers in law Frank O’Keefe and Reggie Boynton, and a nephew, Randy Nuss. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Delfin Cabral, his caregiver who worked hard to honor John’s wishes to come home to be buried, Warren Young, Gabriela Ramirez of the U.S. Embassy to Paraguay, and the San Marcos Funeral Home. John will be privately interred at the Millinocket Cemtery. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Arrangements are by Lamson Funeral Home, Millinocket.
