Leo J. Sirois Millinocket, Maine Obituary

Leo J. Sirois

Millinocket - Leo James Sirois, 88, of Millinocket passed peacefully at his home on the morning of November 5, 2016. He was born on April 6, 1928 in Van Buren, the son of Levite & Catherine Sirois. Leo grew up on a farm in Van Buren, and later moved to Millinocket with his wife Janelle (Hebert) where they built a home on Colony Place and raised their six children. He was employed as a mechanic in Great Northern Paper's Millinocket mill until his retirement in 1985. Leo had a love of gardening that carried over from his years of growing up on a farm & spent many hours in his backyard, nurturing his plants so that he would have much to share with friends & family. In his younger years, he enjoyed hunting with a special friend, Martin Levesque. He loved the company of friends & family (especially as his health declined), & would pull out the cribbage board or deck of cards to share a game and a story -- sometimes many stories! Leo is survived by his wife of 65 years, Janelle; son Richard & special friend Selina VanEss; daughter Diane & husband Terry Cain; son Roland & wife Suzanne; daughter Jessy; and son James. He was predeceased by his oldest son, David, and his nine siblings. He also leaves behind five grandchildren & one great-grandchild, all of whom he was very proud and loved dearly: Shannon Sirois, Emily Arruda & daughter Eleanor, Leah Sirois, Jordon Cain & Abby ("Love you -- too!") Cain. He was especially fond of and grateful for the support of his niece, Ann Marie "Bunny" Pray, as well as friends Janice & Cal Cyr, & Jeannette Levesque. He also leaves behind many special friends & family members (too numerous to mention) that he spoke of with great fondness. Due to his declining health in the last few years & the passing of his oldest son, David, his son Richard became his primary caretaker. Richard put his dad first & saw to it that his every need was met, & the family will be eternally grateful for the sacrifices he made & the excellent care he provided. Friends are invited to visit with the family 10-11 A.M. Saturday, November 12, at Christ the Divine Mercy Parish, 19 Colby Street, Millinocket , where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 A.M. with the Rev. Bruce Siket, pastor, presider. Graveside committal services will be at the Millinocket Cemetery at 1:30 P.M. Arrangements are by Lamson Funeral Home, Millinocket.
