SOUTH THOMASTON – A graveside committal service for Nancy A. Terrio, 75, who died December 30, 2016, will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, June 20, 2017 at Leonard Cemetery in Warren. Arrangements are in the care of Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock Street, Rockland. SOUTH THOMASTON – Nancy A. Terrio, 75, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend, died Friday, December 30, 2016, at the Sussman House in Rockport, after an extended battle with cancer. Born in Rockland, May 13, 1941, she was the daughter of William and Gladys Tyler O’Brien. Educated in local schools, Nancy was a 1959 graduate of Rockland High School. She always loved to play the piano and with her friend Gail Ladd, played the piano and organ respectively at their graduation. She later attended Husson College. On April 27, 1961, Nancy married the love of her life, Lawrence L. ‘Larry’ Terrio. She first worked at W.C. Ladd & Sons in Rockland and also sold Avon products. After the birth of her children, she began employment at the former Depositors Trust Company in Rockland, where she worked as an Administrative Assistant more than 21 years, retiring from Key Bank. Traveling with her husband, brought Nancy great joy. Together they visited Montana, North Carolina, England, France, St. Lucia, Hawaii, Cape Cod, Florida, Indiana and their beach house in Myrtle Beach. She loved to read and do crossword puzzles, and walked 3 miles a day, right up until the end of this past September. She spent many hours in the gym watching her grandchildren play basketball, and at the softball and baseball fields watching them. She loved to knit and particularly enjoyed her Monday morning knitting group which included Nancy’s dear friends, Jan Finton, Joanne Lake, Mildred Lewis, Jane Sylvester, Molly MacMillan and the late Diane Koenig. For more than 46 years, Nancy was an active member of the Federated Church of Thomaston, where she sang in the Choir, and for many years she volunteered at the Thomaston Food Pantry. During her last days, Nancy expressed how grateful she was to all the doctors and nurses at PBMC, the Cancer Care Center and Sussman House, for their unbelievable love and caring. Other than her parents, Nancy was pre-deceased by her brother, Raymond O’Brien and his wife Nancy. She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Larry of South Thomaston; her children and their spouses, Debbie and Richie Oliver of Owls Head, Rick and Nanette Terrio of North Carolina; brother, Bill and his wife Susan O’Brien of Owls Head; brothers-in-law, Joe Terrio and his wife Faye, Bobby Terrio all of Montana, Francis ‘Frank’ Terrio and his wife Judy of Rockland; sisters-in-law, Rose Snowdeal of South Thomaston, Jo-Ann Ames and her husband Tom of Owls Head; mother-in-law, Geneva Terrio of South Thomaston; her grandchildren, Megan Ranquist and her partner Garrett Worster, Lindsay Ranquist and her partner Jason Vinal, Josh Terrio, Samantha Terrio; her step-grandchildren, Cheselle Galkowski and her husband Robbie, Wade Oliver and his partner Haley Dorne; her step-great-grandchildren, Evelynne and Lydia Galkowski; many nieces and nephews, as well as special friends, Jan Finton and Linda Starbird. A celebration of Nancy’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m, Friday, January 6, 2017, at the Federated Church, 8 Hyler Street, Thomaston. The Reverend Vanessa Winters will officiate. A reception will follow in the church vestry. Spring interment will be in Leonard Cemetery, Warren. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Sussman House or Bob Gagnon Cancer Care Fund, both at, C/O PenBay Healthcare Foundation, 22 White Street, Rockland, ME 04841.
