Walter Michael Rhoten, 92, of Hampstead, MD passed away peacefully on February 18, 2017 at the Powhatan Nursing Home in Falls Church, VA. Born November 15, 1924 in Hampstead, MD, he was the son of the late Walter Winfield Rhoten and Nettie Pearl (Grimm) Rhoten and the devoted husband of the late Gladys Harlow Rhoten. Walter served his country honorably in the US Army during WWII. He was a graduate of Hampstead School. He was a member of St Johns UMC, American Legion Post 200, and the Hampstead Lions Club. In his spare time he enjoyed bowling and golfing. He is preceded in death by his wife, parents and sister, Juanita Grimm. Surviving are his daughter, Terry L. Schauer of Arlington, VA; granddaughter, Jennifer Harlow Riskus and husband Steve; grandson, Justin Michael Schauer; brother, Bruce Rhoten; sister, Janet Bare, and a multitude of nieces and nephews. A visitation will be held Friday, February 24, 2017 from 6:00pm to 9:00pm at Eline Funeral Home - 934 South Main Street, Hampstead, MD. A visitation will be held on Saturday, February 25, 2017 from 10:00am to 11:00am followed by a service at 11:00am at the funeral home with Rev. Melissa Rudolph officiating.
