Kenneth Louis "Kenny" Nielsen Plainfield - Kenneth "Kenny" Louis Nielsen, 62, of 8 Forest St., Plainfield, passed peacefully with his son holding his hand on Saturday, June 9, 2012. He battled with a long term illness and just recently accepted hospice care and moved to Worcester, Mass., to live with his son, Adam. Kenny was born May 21, 1950, in New London, son of Carl and Helen Nielsen. He is survived by former wife, Genevieve Calcasola of Preston; sons, Ronald Nielsen of Irvin, Calif., and Adam Nielsen of Worcester, Mass. Kenny made his home with Therese Cwynar, his life companion for the past 13 years. He is also survived by three grandchildren, Alyssa, Jared, and McKenna; his mother, Helen of Waterford; four siblings, Buzz of Summerville, S.C., Kathy Carll of East Hadden, Carey of Mystic, and John of Hazen of Arkansas; and nine nieces and a nephew. He was preceded in death by his father, Carl. He was an electrical engineer at Electric Boat in Groton for 25 years, retiring in 2010. He was a veteran of theVietnam War, a member of the Lions Club, Plainfield Senior Club, and Trout Unlimited. Kenny with be cremated at a private service. There will be a remembrance gathering at 12 p.m. Wednesday, June 20, at Dougherty Brothers Funeral Home, 595 Norwich Road, Plainfield, with a visitation at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Kenneth Nielsen Memorial, checks payable to Adam Nielsen, 13 Trowbridge Circuit, Worcester, MA 01603 or to any Bank of America location.
