Gerald Paul Goodwin Obituary

Of West Newton, passed away peacefully on Sunday morning January 8th, 2017 in the E.N. Rogers Veterans Memorial Hospital in Bedford at the age of 74.

Born on February 18, 1942 in Boston, the son of the late Harold Lewis Goodwin and Dorothy Annie (Davis) Geary. He was raised in Watertown and lived in Waltham before moving to West Newton 49 years ago.

Jerry was employed with Embassy Trophy on Moody Street in Waltham for several years and then was the Manager of Moody Stationary, also in Waltham. He then worked as a Mechanical Coordinator at Panametrics in the Waltham Watch Factory, until his retirement in 2004. Throughout his life he held many part-time jobs including bartending; most recently at Franco’s Restaurant on Moody Street in Waltham. He earned the nickname “Jerry Moody” among his friends, as he spent much time throughout his life in that area of Waltham.

At the age of seventeen, he enlisted in the United States Army proudly serving between 1959 to 1962. He also served in the United States Army National Guard, retiring from military service after more than 25 years. He was a member of the Joseph Hill American Legion Post #156 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #2152 in Waltham.

Jerry loved to read and learn about any subject, checking out countless books from the library and reading several newspapers per day. He retained much of the knowledge he gained from reading and enjoyed talking about many different topics. He also used these facts to complete thousands of crossword puzzles which was another of his favorite pastimes. He was quick-witted, with a great sense of humor.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 49 years Marie Eleanor (Murphy) Goodwin, his devoted & loving daughters Christina M. McGinn of Indiana and Tracey Ann Goodwin of Waltham and his dear siblings Margaret Elizabeth Goodwin and John Joseph Goodwin, Sr., both of Maine. In addition he is survived by many loving nieces, nephews and dear friends.

Dear brother of the late Dorothy Ann Goodwin, Lewis Walter Goodwin, Sr. and Robert Lee Goodwin-Davis.
